What is the point of a ceramic coating?

You have probably heard of a ceramic coating by now. The newest thing in car protection and shine. Ceramic coatings are becoming more and more popular by the day. But why not just use a wax? Waxes have been keeping cars protected and looking good for decades now. Well even though waxes have been used for years doesn't mean they have their downsides. A wax only protects the paint for a few months, while some ceramic coatings can last up to seven years! Waxes also don't provide as much protection as a ceramic coating. Ceramics gives paint hydrophobic properties. What this means is that water doesn't want to be near it, so if you're driving and it starts raining, or a sprinkler hits your car, the water will just bead right off. The hydrophobic layer created by the coating will push the water away and off your car, protecting the paint; thats something a normal wax can't do. A ceramic coating also provides more of a crystalline shine to your paint. Although, if you still want the deep wet look that a carnauba wax gives, you can still put a wax on over the ceramic coating, while still having all the benefits of the ceramics. In all a ceramic coating provides better protection for the paint on your car than a normal wax does, and in my opinion, makes it look way better too.
